About Paolo Cherici

Paolo Cherici studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan, specializing in guitar with Ruggero Chiesa. Mainly interested in ancient music, he devoted himself to lute. He has to his credit about 80 recordings with various ensembles, his repertoire varying from the Renaissance to the Baroque period. He  teaches at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan; he also holds master classes in lute playing and technique.

Paolo Cherici studied at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory of Milan, specializing in guitar with Ruggero Chiesa.

Mainly interested in ancient music, he devoted himself to lute playing and attended classes held by Eugen M. Dombois and Hopkinson Smith at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. He performs concerts in Italy and abroad, both as a soloist and in ensembles, taking part in important festivals of ancient music. He has to his credit about 80 recordings with various ensembles, his repertoire varying from the Renaissance to the Baroque period. His recordings as a soloist, as well as those in collaboration with the soprano Claudine Ansermet, have obtained important recognition from the international critique. The recording Soupirs Meslés d’Amour, Airs de court by Pierre Guédron, obtained the prestigious Diapason d’Or du Siècle. He has collaborated with both symphonic orchestras and with various operatic theaters. He has edited many editions for the publishers Ut Orpheus, Suvini Zerboni and Rugginenti; particularly significant are those dedicated to works of J. S. Bach.

He teaches at the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan; he also holds master classes in lute playing and technique.
